Purpose

The purpose of Dakar Academy Guidance Counseling is to provide professional, service oriented, spiritually sound guidance services that will assist students in the successful completion of graduation requirements and transition to post-secondary education.

Beginning with pre-registration for classes each spring, students in grades 8-12 are advised as to the minimum credit and course requirements for graduation at Dakar Academy. Parents and students are also given course descriptions and a proposed master schedule for classes for the following year prior to spring break. A complete credit evaluation is done for each 10th and 11th grade student at that time to facilitate careful planning by students and their parents.

The guidance counselor will provide information and resources as part of the college search and admissions process. The counselor also services as the test administrator for the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement (AP) tests which are offered yearly, as well as the Standard Achievement Test (offered during the spring of even-numbered years).
