For more than six decades, Dakar Academy has been a leader in Christian international education in West Africa. Founded in 1961, our mission is to equip students with an excellent academic foundation and a strong biblical worldview, preparing them for university and beyond.
Our schools are more than just classrooms—they are thriving communities where students and staff build lasting friendships, serve together, and grow in faith. Whether your family is in West Africa for missions, business, or diplomacy, DA Schools provide a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous environment where your children can thrive.

From early childhood through graduation, students are challenged to think critically, lead courageously, and live purposefully.

Our History & Growth
Serving communities across West Africa with dedicated educational facilities.
Since 1961, Dakar Academy Schools have provided a world-class education rooted in Christian values. Our mission began with a small school serving missionary families and has now grown into a thriving international community.
1962
The “Intermission-School”
Within the first year of the school, three founding mission organizations – United World Mission, WorldVenture, and the Assemblies of God – began working together to determine an agreement that would help the school begin to slowly expand throughout the decade.
1961

A Vision Is Born
A group of missionary families, led by Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Moore, started a small boarding house and co-op school in Dakar’s SICAP neighborhood. They dreamed of a Christ-centered, English-speaking school for their children, and their shared vision planted the seeds for what would become Dakar Academy.
1970
Expanding Reach and Diversity
DA broadened its enrollment beyond missionary families, welcoming students from diverse international backgrounds while maintaining its Christian foundation.
1966
Permanent Campus Established
With support from mission partners, DA moved to a new location in Hann Maristes. Called “the great sand-box” by students, the campus was sandy and barren but provided a blank canvas from which the school could develop.
1991
A New Dorm
As high school classes began being offered in the late 1980s, a new dorm was required to continue the growth trajectory of the school. This building project also opened an opportunity for DA to add a new mission partner in the International Mission Board (IMB).
1987
Accreditation Achieved
After a multi-year process, Dakar Academy earned full accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, affirming its commitment to academic excellence and spiritual formation.
2011
Celebrating 50 Years of Impact
DA celebrated its 50th anniversary—five decades of faith-filled education, global community, and lasting influence across West Africa and beyond.
