Dakar Academy (“DA,” “we,” or “our”) respects your digital privacy and is committed to protecting it. This statement refers to Dakar Academy’s digital information and data, and explains the information we collect from and about you. Through this Digital Privacy Statement, we aim to inform you about how we collect, use, and safeguard personal and other information we collect and obtain, or that you provide, and how you can contact us if you have any questions or concerns. DIGITAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM AND ABOUT YOU

Information You Provide to Dakar Academy
For purposes of this Digital Privacy Statement, “personally identifiable information” is information that identifies you as an individual, such as your name, street address, phone number, or email address.

Certain pages of the Sites may connect you to a third-party data processor to collect information for purposes such as applying to our school (for employment or enrollment), collecting information for our educational programs, managing alumni data, or supporting school operations.

Information Dakar Academy May Collect Automatically
The Sites may collect “non-personally identifiable information” from you. This is information that does not identify you individually but is collected and maintained on an aggregate or anonymous basis. Non-personally identifiable information may include site activity data, such as pages visited, time spent on our Sites, clicks, mouse movements, scrolls, page views, events (interactions with online features), and anonymous digital information like zip codes. It may also include aggregate data provided by third-party surveys of our Sites’ visitors.

Tools We Use to Collect Non-Personally Identifiable Information

  • Cookies: Small text files stored by your browser that allow the website to “remember” your preferences, such as calendar settings or login status. Cookies can be “session” (temporary) or “persistent” (stored on your hard drive). You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings, but doing so may limit certain site functionalities.
  • Conversion Pixels and Tags: Tools that help determine whether a page has been viewed and how often. Emails or newsletters may use pixel tags or web beacons to gather metrics like open rates, device types, and geographic data.

For students, consent will be sought from the student and/or parent, depending on the student’s age and ability to understand the implications.

SHARING YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
Dakar Academy does not share, sell, or rent personally identifiable digital information with unaffiliated entities for their own use without providing you a choice.

Personally identifiable information may be shared with:

  • Other entities within Dakar Academy
  • Service providers, contractors, or subcontractors who are required to keep your information confidential and use it only for the services they perform for DA

Dakar Academy will disclose your personally identifiable information without notice only if we believe it is necessary to:

  1. Protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of DA, its affiliates, employees, agents, or contractors
  2. Protect the safety, privacy, and security of Site users or the public
  3. Prevent fraud or manage risk

ALGORITHMIC SCANNING AND CLASSIFICATION
Dakar Academy reserves the right to scan electronic storage, documents, and emails with automated tools to detect and block malicious software, such as viruses, and to maintain network security. Emails may be scanned for inappropriate or abusive content, and delivery may be blocked for messages containing offensive language, known malicious senders, or specific attachment types.

Documents submitted by students for assessment may be scanned using software, machine learning, or artificial intelligence to detect incorrect citations or possible plagiarism. These classifications are reviewed by qualified instructors.

DA may use third-party systems to monitor, classify, and alert for specific keywords to protect the well-being of the school community.

 

SAFE BROWSING AND ACADEMIC USE
Dakar Academy expects community members to govern themselves appropriately online, understanding that school technology is for academic and administrative use. Please refer to our Responsible Use Agreement for Technology in conjunction with this statement.

While we expect self-regulation, we have tools to monitor and report online activity. Community members are expected to refrain from accessing inappropriate materials and to behave with decorum while online. DA maintains a list of blocked websites on campus and school-owned devices. Requests to unblock sites for academic or administrative purposes may be submitted.

DA may block internet protocols like BitTorrent, TOR, or VPNs, not intended for academic or business use. We do not monitor personal or social media accounts but encourage parents to engage with their children about online safety.

 

HOW DO WE PROTECT YOU AND YOUR DIGITAL INFO?

SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
Safeguarding your information is a priority. We use reasonable administrative, technical, personnel, and physical measures to protect information from loss, unauthorized use, or alteration.

NON-SECURED COMMUNICATION
Posts to discussion forums, boards, and blog comments may be viewable by other users or the general public. Please be cautious when sharing personal information in these areas.

 

ACCESS TO INFORMATION

YOUR ACCESS TO, AND CONTROL OVER, YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
You can access, view, correct, update, or delete your personally identifiable information by contacting us through the options listed in Section 10 below. Please provide your name and address and specify the information you wish to modify. We will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.

DAKAR ACADEMY ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION
DA may use remote administration tools to install applications and updates on school-owned devices. We may monitor online sessions on the school network and school-owned devices but do not record camera images, video, or microphone audio.

DA staff may inspect student-issued devices, emails, documents, or storage upon reasonable suspicion of violations of school policies, such as illegal behavior, bullying, or academic dishonesty. Parents or guardians may be contacted prior to such inspections.

DA may be required to provide student-issued devices and documents to external authorities upon receipt of a lawful warrant.
